Dear Friday

I've been reading every one's Dear Friday letters and decided to get in on the action.

Dear Blog,
I'm so sorry that I've neglected you this month. It's my awesome new job. After staring at the computer ALL day, I kind of want to come home and just not stare at one. However, because I have so many great things, and even some not so great ones, going on in my life right now I am going to try and do better.

Dear New Job,
YOU ROCK MY SOCKS!!!

Dear Boomer,
You know far too much about Mommy's social media habits. Example:
Me: Boomer, make up your bed.
Boomer: Ok...
*two seconds later*
Boomer: Hey Momma? If I make it up and it looks really pretty will you take a picture and Instagram it?
Me: o_O

Dear God,
I can't even say enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! You have blessed me beyond measure. Beyond what I deserve. You have opened all the right doors, and shut all the wrong ones. You knew my hearts desire was to work in this industry and against all odds now I do. My sweet baby girl is almost finished with her first year of school and I know that you support me as a parent with your immeasurable grace. My family is safe, and we have our health. Thank you. Thank you.

Dear Servicemen, Service Women, and Veterans,

This long weekend is not about about boozing and getting a tan. Its about thanking you for the sacrifices you have made, and continue to make. I salute you and your families for all you do. As much as we all are guilty of complaining about our country and its faults, these men and women put their money where their mouth is and lay their lives on the line for US. Think about that for a second.

Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday weekend.
Bye Lovelies!

Spring Must Haves

Hello Lovelies!

So here are my five MUST HAVES for Spring.

1) Claritin
Or really any sort of readily available, over the counter anti-histamine. When I moved to Ohio, from the desert that is Phoenix, my mother and I quickly discovered that first Spring that I was allergic to EVERYTHING that grew in Ohio. I mean everything. I got sent home with pink-eye from first grade. I didn't have pink-eye. I had simply rubbed my eyes so long and so hard that they were almost swollen shut. All the pollen had me oozing from the eyeballs and nose. It was gross. I am allergic to: grass, ragweed, trees, flowers....yeah everything. If I haven't gotten my daily drug fix and I come home to open windows enjoying the breeze...JJ is in TROUBLE.

2) Pedicures

We had an early run of warm Spring weather here in central Ohio and people got carried away. We're talking short shorts and summer dresses in MARCH. Then...there were the feet. Good Lord ladies. If you're going to take your tootsies out of hibernation and throw on open toed shoes, please, please, please make sure your feet are looking right. Go get a starter pedicure. At the very least take off the polish you put on this winter and slap on some lotion. Nivea cream is great for this. I'm asking nicely. Men folks this applies to you as well. If you must wear sandals please moisturize.

3) Pastel Polish

I used to shy away from pastels of any kind because I automatically thought of shades of pink and my mother's nails. I NEVER wanted to emulate my mother's manicures. (Yeah I had some rebellion issues.) So I tended towards brights (read: neon), glitters, darks, and any shade my mother said looked like 'post mortem'. The polishes out now however are gorgeous, and I can assure you that Momma Boom would never be caught dead in a pastel blue or green. Don't be afraid to experiment with these shades, there is something out there flattering for EVERY skin tone. My personal quest this Spring if for a great pastel blue.

4) Cardigans

Remember how I said we had an early run of warm weather this Spring. Well this morning it was 33 degrees out. Gotta love Ohio. I do! I also love cardigans. I have at last count.....around 10. They are wonderful for layering over a sleeveless, or short sleeve shirt, or a sundress. Cardigans are lifesavers in the office too. Overzealous AC-users I'm talking to you! A cute cardi with a ruffle trim or embellishment can add extra ooomph to a jeans and tee-shirt ensemble. Don't even get me started on boyfriend cardis. They cover the booty, which is great, and they are just so cozy. You can find a great cardi anywhere from Nordstrom to Target. So go get some. Now.
I realize there is snow on the ground in this pic....but its a Buckeye colors Cardi!!

5) A camera

I don't care if its your phone, a point and shoot or a fancy DSLR. My picture taking tendencies tend to increase in the warmer weather. Whether its pictures of Boomer at the park, dining al fresco with girlfriends, or just pictures of the beauty that surrounds C-bus in Springtime I love to document it. Now that Instagram is out for Android users I'm documenting even more. (If you gram, come find me. katygoesboom)

Yep....I'm posting this on the internet.

This may or may not be something I posted over here last week.

Memory Lane

Hello Lovelies!!

Today I'm in a bit of a funk. To be perfectly honest my heart hurts.

So I opened up a bottle of white and started reading old diaries.

I found poetry that I'd written about boyfriends. Its AWFUL melodramatic, my life will be meaningless without you, drivel. I was so passionate though. If I loved those boys, because let's face it, some of them I didn't, I loved hard.

I wonder what happened to that girl? She was so passionate and driven. She had big dreams, at one point involving a J.D. and an M.D. (Bish was a little nutty.) ....somewhere along the way she got lost.

Parts of her are still here. I love my friends fiercely. If they need me I'm there. Crying middle of the night phone calls, early a.m. skyping sessions. If I don't hear from you for awhile and you're not responding on your phone, fb, or twitter, I will call the cops on your butt. Yes I'm THAT friend.

I still have dreams. They aren't as grandiose as they used to be.

I'm still loud. I'm still high-energy. I can still get lost in a book for hours. I still run from my mother's basement after I turn off the lights. I still jam to N'Sync. (And just boybands in general....though what IS the fuss over One Direction?)

I'm not sure where this post is going....its just a stream of consciousness at this point. I just find so many of those friends telling me that they miss HER. I want to scream I'm right HERE!!!!! When so many people are saying the same thing it makes you wonder. How much have I allowed myself to change because of a situation I can, but don't, control. At what point is enough, enough?

I don't write this to worry anyone, because I am fine. I just felt the need to get it all out.

Finally Friday....

Hello lovelies!

Its Friday!!!!!!!!!!! Which means tomorrow I'll have wi-fi again.

I'm actually writing this post from my archaic desktop that is actually hard wired to the modem. I feel like I'm in the stone ages. The only thing that would be worse would be the awful soul killing sound of dial up. Yeah, yeah, I know. #firstworldproblems

Anywho since I'm writing from the ancient computer I thought Id share some pictures still living on the ancient computer. This should be fun....

So....this picture is what happens when you're a stay at home mom and you are bored out of your gourd. Boomer and I were obviously hanging out around the house. I had sent some mail, and used up all my stamps. So I took off the random sticker thingies where you fold the book of stamps and gave her cat whiskers. I took a few pictures, then took them off. I don't think this is bad parenting....she didn't cry so clearly her mother being odd didn't bother her. She actually tried to eat the camera which is why this picture is from a standing angle.

This is from a series of pictures JJ took of Boomer and I on my first official, she's out of the womb, Mother's Day. We had gone to my mother's house and the lilacs were blooming and it was gorgeous. The dress that Boomer has on was actually mine when I was a baby, which was even more special.
She was still so delightfully chunky. We called her the Michelin Baby.

Boomer received a crown and scepter when she was born. If that gives you any idea how AWESOME my family is I don't know what will. I love these pictures of her and JJ because every little girl should be Daddy's princess.

So there you have it. Boomer circa five years ago. I can't believe how much she's grown since then. Some days it feels like she was just this little tiny babbling baby. Now she is a full on mini human complete with walking, talking, and opinions galore. (Like how she keeps telling me there is a baby in my belly. No honey, mommy's just gaining weight. *sigh*)

Have a great weekend Lovelies!

The rest of the journey

Hello Lovelies!

I meant to post this Monday night, but alas after driving 9 hours with Boomer I was just too insanely tired to finish the recap of our awesome Easter weekend. (And then my internet went HAYWIRE...they won't fix it until SATURDAY!!!!)

After the passion play at Southern we went back to D's house and took a little nap. (It was warm out there and we walked A LOT) Then D being the awesome friend that she is had set up an Easter Egg hunt for Boomer, knowing she'd miss the ones back here in Ohio. Boomer enjoyed finding all the eggs quite a bit!
I love that this is so blurry, because she really was flying around the house!

Sunday morning we enjoyed breakfast with some of my old college buddies and then we were off to ATL to visit my brother and sister. (Sidenote: Aaron is actually my cousin, but he decided a few years back that I was more sisterly than cousinly so I went with it. Additionally Lauren is not my sister, but we've been dear friends for over 20 years now and our Mommies were the best of friends. So we just say that we are.) You get all that?

So Aaron, Lauren, Boomer and I all trekked to the Cheesecake Factory in Buckhead for Easter dinner. (Let me tell you, they had some evening services I guess and folks in ATL take their Easter outfits VERY seriously. This is why I love and miss the South.)
Boomer and my baby bro having a staring contest....Boomer won.
My sis and I! We wear our sunglasses at night...and sing the song.

The next morning Boomer slept in for what seemed like hours so Lauren and I decided to get into some Violent Lip, lip tattoos.
Yeah.....I'm not sure about the tongue either.....

My sis is sooooo beautiful!

So these are actually pretty cool once you actually get the hang of the application and get over how weird your lips feel. I'd definitely rock them for a night out. Lauren actually wore them to rehearsal. But she's an opera singer.....so she can do DIVA in public and get away with it.

Boomer and I hopped in the car and were off back to Ohio!!!!!

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, I noticed my Boomie just wasn't quite herself. I reached back to hold her hand for a minute and she was BURNING up! I switched into mommy high alert. Her nose had been running, but so had mine. (I mean have you been to TN, GA area....its like the pollen breeds pollen.) But between the lengthy sleeping and now obvious fever I knew something wasn't right. Luckily truck stops carry Triaminic.I also grabbed some OJ, water, and I happened to have a bajillion boxes of tissues in my trunk. (When I stopped in Lexington, KY that child had filled up the ENTIRE back seat with dirty tissues. Yum.)

Anyway, we're back safe and sound in the land of Buckeyes now.

So I drove 500 miles....and I will drive 500 more

Hey Lovelies!

Today I'm writing from my sister's room in ATLANTA...so yeah I really did drive 500 +miles. (I love that song....and its walk 500 miles isn't it?)

Boomer and I drove down to Chattanooga on Friday to see the Sonrise Easter pageant that they put on every year at The Collegedale Seventh-Day Adventist Church. I went to college the first two years at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale TN (just outside of Chattanooga).

So anyway...I remember seeing the pageant and being incredibly moved by in when I was in school there. Boomer is actually really....spiritual...for a five year old. I thought she would really enjoy the play. It starts of in the church. The scene is different every year. This year, because of the recent tornado activity in that part of the country, the opening scene was of a tornado damaged home, and then various other scenes of people in trouble. They played Third Day's song 'Cry Out to Jesus' and angels appeared to each person in their time on trouble. Then 'Jesus' appeared floating over the stage. Everything fades to black and then Peter comes in. His monologue invites all the participants to follow him because Jesus is coming to Jerusalem. You walk out of the church and there is the beginnings of the city of Jerusalem.
My city girl actually pet the Donkey!

Real Camels! Boomer asked if they spit.
The money changers at the city gate.

Spices and Food stuffs at the market

The blacksmiths that gave Boomer a tiny sword....that mommy left in TN. Ooops :)

The Last Supper

These pictures are from the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus praying, the devil tempting him, and finally the angel interceding.

Jesus at Pilate's Palace

After you go through the passion play up to the Crucifixion you walk into the gymnasium, which has been transformed into a dark burial area. On the stage is the tomb, and people preparing the body for burial. Mary of Magdalene shares her story of Christ's love for her and then as the soldiers approach everyone leaves. I asked Leila if she was worried and she said, 'No Mommy, I mean we know how it ends.' The devil appears again basking in his triumph, but suddenly there is thunder and a flash of lightening. The ground shakes and the soldiers attempt to run away out of fear. An angel appears and does battle with the devil. There are more fireworks, and thunder and then the devil is defeated and thrown into the flames of hell. (Its pretty dramatic.) As the song 'Arise my Love' by Newsong is playing the angel delivers the message that God is calling Jesus from the grave. He is resurrected and then returns to heaven. (Yeah.....he flies...along with a few angels.) (I didn't take pictures of this or the Crucifixion because it seemed too somber and flashes would be distracting in the tomb scene)

Boomer really enjoyed it. She was clapping enthusiastically when Jesus was resurrected. I'm glad that I got to experience it and share it with her. I'll probably take her back in a few years.
